How to get started

Book a 20 min FREE placement test to see what is suitable for your child

Before commencing, students complete a short literacy placement check that takes around 20 minutes. These can be done either online or in person. This helps us:• Understand current skill levels
• Identify key areas of need
• Place students into the most appropriate group
This is a quick screening for placement purposes — not a full assessment.

Is this right for your child?

Our sessions are designed for students who:• are falling behind in reading or spelling
• read slowly or inaccurately
• struggle with longer or unfamiliar words
• avoid reading or lack confidence
• are working hard but not making progress
• may have diagnosed learning difficulties or dyslexia
If this sounds familiar, your child likely needs targeted, structured support.

Wondering if it could be dyslexia? Start here with our dyslexia pre- screener.

Does your child have gaps in their learning, or could it be dyslexia?A full assessment can be a significant investment — this is a practical first step to help you decide what to do next.Formal dyslexia assessments can be expensive and don’t always tell you what to do next. This assessment helps you:• identify indicators of dyslexia
• understand where reading and spelling are breaking down
• determine whether further assessment is needed
• get clear, actionable next steps
You will receive:• 40 minute online or in person assessment
• a written summary of your child’s literacy profile
• clear recommendations
• guidance on next steps (school, intervention, or further assessment)
This can be shared with your child’s school or an educational psychologist.COST: $245Important: This is not a diagnostic assessment. It is an educational screener designed to provide clarity before committing to a full assessment.

ABOUT US

Literacy Learning Australia provides specialist-led, evidence-based literacy instruction. Our approach incorporates a trauma-informed lens, recognising that many students who struggle with literacy have often experienced repeated difficulty and loss of confidence. Instruction is designed not only to build skills, but to rebuild confidence, engagement, and a sense of success in learning.

AMANDA BARRETT
Founder/Director
Amanda is a Literacy Specialist teacher with over 13 years of experience supporting students who are struggling with reading, spelling and writing. Dyslexia is prevalent in Amanda’s family, which led her to pursue this work and develop a deep understanding of how literacy difficulties can impact children — not just academically, but in their confidence and overall wellbeing, as well as the most effective, evidence-based ways to support them. She has worked across early childhood, primary and secondary settings. Her work focuses on students who have not made expected progress with typical classroom instruction, including those with more complex learning needs.Amanda’s teaching is grounded in evidence and she has formally trained in multiple structured literacy programs and approaches. Everything taught at Literacy Learning Australia is based on the most up-to-date evidence from The Science of Reading and the science of learning to give most effective intervention.
